Vasyl Tkachivsky

Date of Birth: June 11, 1961 Place of Birth: Brin village, Halych district, Ivano-Frankivsk region

After completing school in 1978-1980, he served in the army. In 1987, he graduated from the Faculty of Foreign Languages at Ivan Franko Lviv State University with a degree in “Romano-Germanic Languages and Literature” specializing in “Philologist. Teacher of German Language. Translator”.

He worked as a guide-translator at the Lviv Bureau of International Youth Tourism “Sputnik”, as an engineer-translator at the Kalush production association “Chlorvinyl”, as a translator of scientific and technical literature at an enterprise, and as a translator of political programs on television. From 1987 to 1990, he taught German at Selyatyn Secondary School in Putyla district, Chernivtsi region.

Since 1991, he has been working at Vasyl Stefanyk Precarpathian National University. Since 1997, he has been working full-time. In 1997, he defended his dissertation at Vasyl Stefanyk Precarpathian National University to obtain the degree of Candidate of Philological Sciences in the specialty 10.01.01 – “Ukrainian Literature” on the topic “German-Language Correspondence of Ivan Franko as a Literary Source”.

In 2001, by the decision of the Attestation Board of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, he was awarded the academic title of Associate Professor of the Department of German Philology. From 2001 to 2019, he was the head of the university-wide Department of Foreign Languages.

He underwent internships at foreign universities: University of Vienna, Vienna, Austria (1995), Humboldt University, Berlin, Germany (1996), Yuriy Fedkovych Chernivtsi National University (2011), Ivano-Frankivsk National Technical University of Oil and Gas (2016).

He is a member of the Ministry of Education expert council for reviewing German language textbooks in 2013 and 2018.

He is a member of the jury, chairman of the jury, and deputy chairman of the jury of student olympiads in German language at the III stage since 1999.

He was the deputy chairman of the jury of the All-Ukrainian student olympiads in German language from 2010 to 2013, from 2016 to 2018.
